The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association released its 12th 2019 Division III Warrior and New Balance Team of the Week accolades on Tuesday, April 30. Ten players earned recognition from the organization as they each posted exceptional performances in their programs games this past week.
The list of honorees are as follows:
Alex Terry, St. Lawrence University (Jr, GK, Hopkinton, Mass.)
Terry led the No. 19 Saints in goal, with 16 saves, a 5.00 GAA, .615 save percentage, 7 ground balls and 3 caused turnovers as the Saints defeated #18 RPI 11-6 in their regular-season finale on Wednesday and upset fourth-seeded Ithaca (10-4) in the first-round of the Liberty League Tournament on Saturday.
Brett Malamphy, Salisbury University (Sr, MID, Crofton, Md
Brett Malamphy was once again dominant from the faceoff X going 44-of-50 for a win percentage of .880. In Salisbury's CAC first round victory over Southern Virginia Malamphy set new career-best marks as he went 26-of-28 from the faceoff X for a win percentage of .920 while scooping up 21 ground balls. It was the eighth straight game Malamphy has won double-digit faceoff wins and third time in five games Malamphy has surpassed the 20 win mark. The 21 groundballs against the Knights also marks the first time this season Malamphy has surpassed the 20 groundball mark in a game and passed his career-best mark seven.
Brian Gannon, St. Lawrence University (SO., D, Fairfield, Conn.)
Gannon guided the Saints defense, ranked eighth in the country in scoring defense, with a season-best eight caused turnovers and six ground balls on the week as the No. 19 Saints defeated #18 RPI 11-6 in their regular-season finale on Wednesday and upset fourth-seeded Ithaca (10-4) in the first-round of the Liberty League Tournament on Saturday.
Cam Brickey, Elmira College (Sr., DEF, Cuba, N.Y.)
Led all players in ground balls (11) & caused turnovers (10) in Elmira's 10-6 Empire 8 Conference win over Houghton, both of which are single-game career highs. Also added his first career point with an assist.
Evan Wolf, Amherst College (Sr., A, Wynnewood, Pa.)
Senior attacker Evan Wolf '19 led the Mammoths in a 2-0 week, netting six goals and dishing out five helpers for 11 points while picking up four ground balls and causing a turnover to own a 50.0 shot percentage ove the two-game span.
Gib Versfeld, Amherst College (So, GK, Langhorne, Pa.)
Getting his first playoff start, sophomore Gib Versfeld came up big for the Mammoths in the NESCAC Quarterfinals against No. 16 Bates, making 20 saves and picking up two ground balls in the winning effort. Also making eight saves against Trinity earlier in the week, Versfeld finished with four ground balls, a caused turnover, a 73.7 save percentage and a 6.67 GAA.
Jack O’Connell, Dickinson College (Sr., A, Sands Point, N.Y)
O'Connell had a big week, scoring seven goals and handing out two assists.
Jacob Tatum, Stevenson University (So, A/MF, Kingwood, Texas)
Tatum totaled 10 goals and three assists in two wins as Stevenson wrapped up the MAC Commonwealth regular season title. Finished with five goals against Messiah, then notched five goals and three assists at Arcadia.
Matt Haemmerle, Montclair State University (Sr., A, Hillsdale, N.J.)
Haemmerle led MSU to a 2-0 week, including a win in the CSAC Semifinals. He scored five times in a little over a quarter of action in a 22-2 win at Keystone. He also had two ground balls and a caused turnover. He then registered the 2nd-highest goal scoring game in history with eight goals and three assists as MSU advanced to the CSAC Championship Game with a 20-7 win against Kean. Haemmerle scored on 13 of 18 shots on-goal and 21 overall.
Nicholas Carnovale, Stevens Institute of Technology (Sr., M, Fairfield, N.J.)
Won all 20 faceoffs, while picking up 16 ground balls in Stevens' 18-6 victory over Hartwick. Number 10 Stevens' 12th straight victory and the program's third straight Empire 8 Conference regular-season title.
