The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association released its fifth 2019 Division II Warrior and New Balance Team of the Week accolades on Tuesday, March 12. Ten players earned recognition from the organization as they each posted exceptional performances in their programs games this past week.
The list of honorees are as follows:
Keegan Bell, Tusculum (Sr., M, Port Coquitlam, B.C.)
Bell had a pair of six-goal games as the Pioneers extended their winning streak to five in a row with wins over Mars Hill (15-13) and Barton (22-12). Against Mars Hill, he became the fifth player in program history to reach 100 career points.
Connor Farrell, LIU Post (Sr., FO, Holtsville, N.Y.)
Farrell set two NCAA Div. II records during a win against No. 1 Merrimack. He won 34-of-37 faceoff attempts and added 30 ground balls on the day. Both are the best single-game marks across all three divisions this season.
William Snelders, LIU Post (So., A, Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.)
Snelders scored five goals against No. 1 Merrimack. He scored the game-tying goal with seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime before notching the game-winning goal in overtime.
Parker Kump, Indianapolis (Sr., A, Surrey, British Columbia)
Kump scored a season-high six goals in a conference win over Young Harris, adding four ground balls.
Erich Wiitala, Indianapolis (Fr., D, Louisville, KY)
Wiitala caused a game-high five turnovers in conference win over Young Harris, including five ground balls.
Charlie Bertrand, Merrimack (Jr., A, Baldwinsville, N.Y.)
Bertrand followed up his first-ever 10-point outing from last Sunday with a 12-point afternoon that included eight goals and four assists. He became the first Warrior to net 12 points in a game since All-American Greg Melaugh '13 had an identical amount during the 2009 season.
Brian Loughlin, Saint Michael's (Gr, A, Kingston, N.Y.)
Loughlin recorded five goals and three assists during a 16-7 victory over Post on Saturday, notching seven of his points before halftime before handing out a final assist 35 seconds into the fourth quarter.
Lucas Shafer, Maryville (Sr., A, Hamburg, N.Y.)
Shafer posted six goals and added three assists in a contest at Shorter. He followed up with two goals and seven assists at Montevallo as the Saints won two road contests.
Greg Taicher, Rollins (Sr., A, Berwyn, Pa.)
Taicher earned a career-high in both goals (6) and overall points (9) in a game as he helped the Tars win their third straight with a 12-8 regional win over Westminster (Utah).
Andrew Avarello, Mount Olive (So., GK, Clarence, N.Y.)
Avarello in two wins this week, recorded 12 saves against Walsh with an 80% save percentage and three goals-against and against FSC had 18 saves with a 69.2% save percentage and eight goals-against.
