The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association released its first 2019 Division III Warrior and New Balance Team of the Week accolades on Tuesday, February 12. Seven players earned recognition from the organization as they each posted exceptional performances in their programs games this past weekend.
The list of honorees are as follows:
Kevin Rogers, University of Lynchburg
Rogers turned in an impressive performance against No. 2 Salisbury University. The junior midfielder scored four goals and tallied two assist to total six points in an 11-9 setback against the Gulls.
Jared Nelson, Pfeiffer
Nelson posted a solid outing in Pfeiffer’s 14-9 victory over Emmanuel, tallying 13 total points scoring eight goals and recording five assists.
Kevin Witchey, York College of Pennsylvania
The senior defenseman was crucial to the No. 7 Spartans thrilling 7-6 victory over No. 10/12 Washington & Lee University on February 9. Witchey caused two turnovers and scooped up two groundballs in the contest and was matched up on the Generals A.J. Witherell, an All-American last season who totaled 91 points scoring 60 goals and 31 assists. Witchey held Witherell to one goal and two turnovers.
Jake O’Brien, Hampden-Sydney College
O’Brien helped the Tigers get off to a 1-0 start downing the Eagles of the University of Mary Washington 14-7. The sophomore attackman netted five goals and dished out an assists to finish the afternoon with six points. He also scooped up three groundballs in the process to add to his stat line.
Corey Gwin, Salisbury University
Gwin aided in No. 2 Salisbury’s big, 11-9, victory over No. 12/20 University of Lynchburg on February 9. Gwin netted three goals including two man up markers to aid in a 3-of-4 extra man opportunity mark for the afternoon for the maroon and gold.
Colin DiSesa, Randolph-Macon
DiSesa recorded helped Randolph-Macon to a 1-0 start to 2019 after an 11-4 victory over Methodist University. DiSesa scored three goals and also tallied an assist to finish the day with four points. One of his goals came in the third quarter with 46 seconds left to play on a man down situation for Randolph-Macon.
Zac Asbury, Southwestern University
Asbury posted a big afternoon for Southwestern in its season opening, 20-11, victory over Huntingdon. Asbury totaled 10 points scoring two goals while dishing out an eye popping eight assists. He would also scoop up seven groundballs and cause two turnovers from his attack position.
