USILA, WARRIOR AND NEW BALANCE FORM MULTIYEAR PARTNERSHIP
BALTIMORE, Maryland- The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA), along with Warrior and New Balance today announced a new multiyear partnership that designates Warrior and New Balance as the official outfitter for the organization. Warrior and New Balance will provide support in the promotion of the USILA’s All-America and Scholar All-America programs, National Players of the Year and the North-South All-Star Game.
“As Warrior continues to work tirelessly to push the sport of lacrosse forward, it’s important for us to partner with authentic organizations that share our values and commitment to the sport,” said John Gregory Warrior/NB Director of Global Marketing. “As the longest standing college lacrosse association in the country, the USILA sets the standard for lacrosse authenticity. We couldn’t be more excited to partner with this historic organization, and look forward to a collaborative, impactful relationship that we know will leave a positive mark on the sport we love.”
“On behalf of our USILA membership, it is an honor to announce our partnership with Warrior Sports and New Balance,” said Gene McCabe, President of the USILA. “Their longstanding commitment to supporting and growing the game at all levels is unmatched. It is a brand name synonymous with lacrosse at all levels with deep foundational roots in the college game. Dave Morrow, and all of the great people at Warrior and New Balance have a relentless passion for lacrosse, just like our players and coaches do. Their mission, history in our game, and unwavering commitment to growing the game perfectly support the USILA’s mission. Our Board of Directors are both grateful for the opportunity to partner with Warrior and New Balance.”
The USILA’s All-America teams are rooted in a rich and storied tradition that first acknowledged the nation’s premiere players in 1922 and continue today through the presentation of certificates to student-athletes and the institutions by which they represent. Additionally, the USILA designates National Players of the Year respective to each Division, including but not limited to outstanding attackman, outstanding midfielder, outstanding defensive player and outstanding goalkeeper.
In 1989, the USILA extended its All-America program to recognize academic achievements. The USILA Scholar All-America Program acknowledges and honors student-athletes from USILA member institutions who have distinguished themselves academically, athletically and as citizens of their communities.
The annual North-South Game (now the Senior All Star Game) dates back to 1940 that saw Princeton’s Bill Logan lead the North squad to a 6-5 victory over the South team coached by Maryland’s Jack Faber in the inaugural event played at Municipal Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland. Seventy-six North-South All-Star Games have been played since its inception with the only interruption being in 1944 and 1945 due to World War II. Since that time, the game has been held 72 consecutive years.
In 1991, the USILA split the event and created two games - the Division I-II game and the Division III game. This two-game format was interrupted in 2006 when a special committee of the USILA recommended returning to one game and combining all divisions. The following year, 2007, saw the return to two separate games.
